Consider improvements room by room. Note awkward access, insufficient storage or a workspace that never fits. Describe the use you want. Solutions can come later; first clarify the problem.
Make three lists: essential, desirable and possibly later. Avoid artificial urgency. A new wall colour and a room you cannot use call for different conversations.
Bring the choices together
During the survey, discuss how changes affect each other. Where will the kitchen go? Which floor should stay? Where would lighting and sockets be convenient? You do not need to design pipework or structures yourself.
